First Week in Guam

After many requests to create my own blog (one) I finally decided to cave in. This blog will take you with me on my magical journey during my time on Guam. Although realistically I think I could pretty much do the entirety of Guam in about a week I will try to extend it over a few months.

I flew out of Orlando, Florida Friday the 20th at 0700 and landed at Guam International at 1800 Saturday night. I successfully completed time travel since my total time flying around only around 15 hours. Take that physics. From the airplane, here is my first ever picture of Guam!

That is Andersen Airforce Base, which is located on the north side of the island. The Naval base is about an hour drive southwest of Andersen and NCTS is a short 15 minute drive southwest of AFB. Here is a map for your convenience.

After landing my Sponsor and XO took me to the Navy Gateway Inn where I decided to go to bed. Well, I tried... I woke up every couple hours until finally I just gave up and got out of bed around 5. It wasn't exactly the best night sleep of my life. In the morning I got picked up and shown around the island but due to the time change at around 1300 I started to fade. I finally got over the jet lag after about the first week. Nothing really exciting happened yet, basically just a bunch of paperwork and trying to learn the basics of my job. The only semi-exciting thing I did was visit a place called Two Lover's Point. Short version of the legend is that a Chamorro princess and peasant fell in love. The problem? She was supposed to marry a Spanish ship captain. Instead, she decided to run away with the man and eventually they were chased to the top of a cliff. Instead of being taken back they kissed and leap off to their death.

The place was filled with Japanese tourists, some of them even getting wedding photos, and it was kind of weird being there by myself. I guess the two buffalo are supposed to symbolize the lovers but I'm unsure why they are depicted as buffalo. The view of Tumon from the top was pretty awesome though!

Well that is all I got for now. Working on getting my Guam Bomb figured out as well as a place to live. This weekend I will drive around the island and report back with anything interesting. Other than that, I will be house hunting in Tumon for the next week; once a sweet bachelor pad is discovered I will post pictures of it on this blog!
